Job description
Independent third-cycle studies encompassing research (100%). The research work for this PhD position will be carried out in the Power electronic group. You will be part of a research environment working in fields of power converters, electric powertrains, energy storage in transport and power grid applications. Electric energy storage systems will be a very important part in both electrification of transport system as well as supporting the power grid for peak-shaving and stabilization.

The PhD position focus on a case of reconfigurable battery system development for improved energy efficiency, flexibility and redundancy. For high reliability, battery pack and individual cells need extensive monitoring and modelling for state of charge and state of health estimations. In the project, reconfigurable battery management systems will be developed based on embedded systems utilizing models and/or machine learning approaches; different energy storage applications both in automotive and power grid will also be investigated and developed for improved performance and flexibility.

As a PhD student in the Power electronics group, you will be a vital part of the research group, collaborating with other PhD students, post-docs and senior researchers. Your studies will consist of courses and own research work, developing your competences through both theoretical studies and experimental investigations. You are expected to bring forward own ideas in the development of our research agenda, and to actively contribute to the publication and presentation of the research results. The research group, in turn, will provide a forum for discussion, supervision and assistance during your studies, supporting your research and career development.
