The Department of Health Sciences is situated at Campus Sundsvall and Campus Östersund. The institution educates and conducts research in a number of subjects, with a focus on people, health and well-being.
The Swedish Winter Sports Research Centre (SWSRC) was established in 2007 within Mid Sweden University at Campus Östersund. The SWSRC carries out research primarily on winter sports at both national and international levels and has a strong focus on interdisciplinary research related to athletes’ physiological responses, biomechanics, performance and health. The SWSRC conducts research in close collaboration with governing bodies and federations as well as individuals and groups participating in both elite and recreational sports. Mid Sweden University is recognised as a National Sports University (RIU) through the Swedish Sports Confederation. As part of the Department of Health Sciences at Mid Sweden University, the SWSRC has strong, extensive and well-established interactions with the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Sports Science.
Job description
The focus of the researcher position will be in an applied sport setting with implementation of training and health monitoring within cross-country skiing, biathlon and alpine skiing.
Consequently, the aim of the researcher position is to integrate, interpret and analyse ways of integrating monitoring systems for performance optimisation across a range of sports.
The work will include both laboratory and field measurements depending on the research question(s). Specific duties will also involve collection, physiological testing both in lab and on the field. Further the position requires co-operation with coaches, support functions and athletes in different sport settings.
As researcher, you will have an important role at SWSRC to work with existing and own projects, collaborate with other researchers, and to some degree act as a co-supervisor to student projects at bachelors or master’s level in similar projects. Although this researcher position is primarily focusing on research activities, there will also be opportunities to deliver teaching within the degree programmes in Sports Science at BSc and MSc level.
