Department of Engineering, Mathematics and Science Education

We conduct research and education in physics, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, mathematics, industrial design engineering and didactics in mathematics and science education. We offer unique and world-leading research within the FSCN Research Centre and Sports Tech Research Centre.

As a postdoctoral researcher you will also work within the research center FSCN. Here there is a strong research environment in materials and process technology. We often work multidisciplinary and develop knowledge and technology that above all enable resource-efficient processes, new or improved functionality of bio-based materials and energy materials.

 

Job description
The primary responsibility of this postdoctoral position is to conduct research, with the possibility of including teaching duties up to a maximum of 20% of a full-time position.

As a postdoctoral researcher, you will work within the Neopulp project and be part of the Fiber Mechanics research group. Your work will involve analyzing fiber data, as well as modeling and controlling subprocesses in pulp production. The role includes applying data-driven methods and machine learning techniques to process data. While the position is primarily theoretical, it may also encompass laboratory work, depending on your individual strengths and areas of interest.

 

Requirement
To be eligible for a post-doctoral appointment, your qualifications must match the requirements described in Mid Sweden University’s employment procedures.

The successful candidate must also hold a PhD in mechanical engineering, engineering physics, or in a closely related field.

 

Assessment
The applicant must have expertise in modeling and simulation, as well as strong proficiency in mathematics and programming. The successful candidate must also have the ability to independently author scientific publications. 

Prior postdoctoral experience in a field relevant to the project is an advantage. Experience with fiber–water systems is particularly valuable. A strong publication record in internationally recognized scientific journals is also considered a merit. Excellent communication skills, demonstrated through teaching or conference presentations, are highly desirable.

You are a responsible person who can deliver within predetermined deadlines. Good initiative, communication skills, teamwork and creativity are important personal qualities for the job.

Terms of employment 
This is a full-time position (100%) for 2 years from August 15, 2025 or as agreed.

Terms and conditions of employment are set out in the Fixed-term employment contract for post-doctoral appointments.
