At the department, education is conducted in the subjects of computer engineering, electronics, electrical engineering and sound production. The research at the department takes place at the research center Sensible Things that Communicate (www.miun.se/stc) and deals with sensor-based systems and services for use within the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence.
The doctoral position is part of the international research school IRS TransTech, where you will have the opportunity to collaborate with leading international universities and Swedish companies. The research school focuses on transformative technologies such as AI, IoT, and advanced materials, with the goal of driving sustainable industrial development and strengthening international research and business networks. The current research project is focused towards high power and performance power converters exploring different converter topologies, utilization of WBG switching devices, efficient and high-power density magnetic devices and effective control strategy. The project will be conducted in close collaboration to our industrial partner Powerbox AB.
Job description
Independent third-cycle studies encompassing 100% research without teaching and administrative tasks. The doctoral position leads to double degrees, where you receive a degree from both Mid Sweden University and Ecole Nationale d’Ingénieurs de Tunis (Tunisia). The first year is carried out in Tunis and the three remaining years at Mid Sweden University (Sundsvall).
Entry requirements
General entry requirements include a second-cycle level qualification, or fulfilment of courses comprising at least 240 credits of which at least 60 credits must be at second-cycle level, or the equivalent knowledge gained in some other way in Sweden or abroad. Specific entry requirements include at least 90 credits in the subject of electronics or the equivalent knowledge gained in some other way in Sweden or abroad.
Assessment criteria
Final selection will also be based on other work (such as thesis work) and courses, and on interviews with applicants. Prior experience in power electronics, programming of embedded systems, control and magnetic devices will be an advantage. Strong proficiency in English, both written and spoken, is essential for effective communication in an international research environment.
Personal qualities
Personal qualities like teamwork skills, initiative, and suitability for PhD studies will be weighed together with formal subject knowledge. A brief description of your visions and goals should be included in the application.
Other assessment criteria
Additional meriting skills for the position is practical lab experience and prototyping, electronics CAD and simulation tools as well as good English skills.
Employment process
Processing of the appointment will comply with the provisions in Chapter 5 of the Higher Education Ordinance, and will be carried out in accordance with Mid Sweden University’s Employment Procedures.
Terms of employment
The doctoral studentship corresponds to four years of full-time studies and is expected to lead to a Degree of Doctor. Entry date as agreed, preferably during the Autumn Semester 2025.
The PhD studies will start with one year at Ecole Nationale d’Ingénieurs de Tunis (Tunisia) with local terms of scholarship. Year 2-4 the Ph.D. studies will be carried out at MIUN with a three year doctoral studentship position.
Initial doctoral student positions are valid for a maximum of one year, after which the position may be renewed by no longer than two years at a time. Provisions regarding doctoral studentship employment can be found in the Higher Education Ordinance (1993:100), Chapter 5, Sections 1-7.
