Department of Computer and Electrical Engineering

At the department, education is conducted in the subjects of computer engineering, electronics, electrical engineering and sound production. The research at the department takes place at the research center Sensible Things that Communicate (www.miun.se/stc) and deals with sensor-based systems and services for use within the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence.

Job description

Mid Sweden University is looking for a talented and motivated candidate with a strong background in Image Processing, Computer Vison, Optimization, Machine and Deep Learning, and Mathematics, to deploy innovative Visual AI and develop next generation augmented and immersive media for remote presence and operation.

The research for this position will be carried out with the Realistic 3D research group at the STC research centre within a project in close collaboration with international academy and industrial partners. Research will address topics such as six degrees of viewing freedom and super-resolution for 360 video streaming, and integrating 3D scanned objects into augmented reality in a remote operation system. Focus will be on algorithmic development utilizing physics-based machine learning, e.g. algorithm unrolling, and recent deep learning technology, e.g. transformers.

The subject Computer engineering covers techniques, theories and methodological aspects for the structure, function, and applications of computers, including both hardware and software. Computer engineering at Mid Sweden University consists of three specializations: Communication Networks, Data Analysis and Multidimensional Signal Processing.

Multidimensional Signal Processing covers techniques, theories, and methodological aspects for capturing, modelling, processing, coding, and visualizing signals, especially those that can be interpreted with human perception. Central concepts are interacting signals and systems. Research is focused on Visual AI, which combines knowledge in Optics, Image Processing, Computer Vision, as well as Machine and Deep Learning.

Research on Multidimensional Signal Processing is carried out in the Realistic 3D research group (www.miun.se/realistic3d) within the research centre STC – Sensible Things that Communicate – (www.miun.se/stc) that develops sensor-based systems and services for use within Internet of Things and AI. STC research centre has about 13 professors, 15 senior researchers, and 30 PhD students.
