Department of Computer and Electrical Engineering

At the department, education is conducted in the subjects of computer engineering, electronics, electrical engineering and sound production. The research at the department takes place at the research center Sensible Things that Communicate (www.miun.se/stc) and deals with sensor-based systems and services for use within the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence.

Job description

The postdoctoral position focuses on research and development regarding innovative antenna solutions for sensor nodes within the Internet of Things (IoT). IoT nodes are often designed or must be placed in such a way that standard commercial antennas do not always provide full functionality or simply cannot be used at all, including when aesthetically pleasing products without a visible antenna are requested. In the future, IoT nodes will also build on technologies with 6G, where we are already investigating how communication can be optimized via smart surfaces that actively control propagating radio waves. The doctoral work is one of several parts of the research centre's general investment in IoT, where you will have a central role in the design and integration of antennas. The work is largely carried out with computer-based simulations, but also includes a lot of practical workshop work when antenna solutions are to be realized and measured.

As a postdoc, you will be a vital part of the research group and collaborating with other researchers. You are expected to participate to the group’s research work and to bring forward own ideas in the development of the research agenda. You are also expected to contribute to the publication and communication of research results. The research group, in turn, will provide a forum for discussion, supervision and assistance during your studies, supporting your research and career development.

Requirement

To be eligible for a post-doctoral appointment, your qualifications must match the requirements described in Mid Sweden University’s employment procedures.

To be eligible for this position, you should hold a PhD degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, computer engineering, or a similar subject.

Assessment

The assessment of applications to this position will be based on the applicants’ previous research experience and publication record. The topic of your previous research and its quality will be taken into account. Moreover, the quality and quantity of your publication record, as well as your motivation and vision for your postdoc period, will be considered in the assessment.

The applicant's doctoral studies and/or continued research should have dealt with antenna design or closely related areas within passive microwave technology. The applicant should enjoy both pure theoretical work and computer-based simulations as well as practical workshop work to build and test the antenna concepts we develop. Previous experience of work in microwave technology or antenna design as well as practical work is advantageous.

Personal qualities

In addition to your technical competences, your suitability for the position will be evaluated based on your ability to collaborate with others, to work independently, and to communicate clearly.

Other assessment criteria

The position requires good English language skills.
