Gaskeuniversiteete/Mid-Sweden University is located in the middle of the Southern Sami area in Sápmi. The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences operates at Campus Sundsvall and Campus Östersund. Activities include research and education within the subjects of Civics, Comparative Literature, Criminology, English, Gender Studies, History, Political Science, Sociology, Southern Sami, Swedish as a Second Language, and Swedish Language. The research is conducted within each respective subject and within the Risk and Crisis Research Center (RCR), Forum for Gender Studies (FGV), and DEMICOM (an interdisciplinary centre for research on journalism, crisis communication, media development, and organizational and political communication).

The Unit of Criminology and Sociology is located on both Campus Sundsvall and Campus Östersund. Within the unit, there is education and research in areas such as violence and crime prevention, risk and crisis, work and organization, as well as society, power, and critique. In the field of criminology, education is primarily at the undergraduate level, and research focuses on violence and crime prevention.

The unit intends to hire a Senior Lecturer in Criminology for a permanent position at the campus Sundsvall.

Job description

The main job responsibilities include teaching and mentoring first cycle students, as well as participating in the development of courses and programs in Criminology. Teaching is conducted both on campus and through distance learning. The position includes opportunities for continuing professional development, part of the subjects research grants, and administrative duties as per the current employment agreement and local guidelines. Furthermore, the holder of this position is expected to contribute to the unit's development and cohesion through their work, which requires a physical presence at the workplace.

 

Requirements

The person to be employed as a senior lecturer must be qualified according to the requirements described in the Mid Sweden University's employment regulations Mid Sweden University’s employment procedures and according to the requirements described in the Faculty of Human Science´s rules and regulations.

Eligibility for appointment as a Senior Lecturer in Criminology requires a doctoral degree or a relevant foreign qualification deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree in Criminology or a related field, as well as demonstrated teaching competence (Higher Education Act, Chapter 4, Section 4). To be eligible to work as a university lecturer, at least 15 academic credits or at least 10 weeks of full-time studies in teaching and learning in higher education is required. If this is lacking, an employed university lecturer must achieve this within two years of appointment.

  

Assessment

Equal weight is given to the assessment of pedagogical proficiency as to scientific proficiency (Higher Education Act, Chapter 4, Section 4).

Scientific competence is primarily assessed through an evaluation of the quality and quantity of submitted publications, considering depth and breadth. Pedagogical competence is primarily assessed through an evaluation of teaching and mentoring experience, as well as responsibilities for courses and programs. Merits for the position include experience in research and teaching within the field of violence and crime prevention, familiarity with IT-based learning, as well as proficiency in Swedish and English.

As the position involves student interaction and collaboration with colleagues, strong teamwork and effective communication skills are essential.


Employment process

Processing of the appointment will comply with the provisions in Chapter 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance, and will be carried out in accordance with Mid Sweden University’s Employment Procedures.


Terms of employment

Permanent employment consisting of 100 per cent of full-time employment, with start according to agreement.  

Place of employment: Sundsvall.
