At the department, education is conducted in the subjects of computer engineering, electronics, electrical engineering and sound production. The research at the department takes place at the research center Sensible Things that Communicate (www.miun.se/stc) and deals with sensor-based systems and services for use within the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence.

Job description
The research center STC (Sensible Things that Communicate), a renowned Scandinavian research powerhouse that focuses on cutting-edge advancements in communication, sensors, and industrial applications, announces one open postdoctoral position in joint wireless communication and sensing. This position offers a unique opportunity for the candidate to contribute to the exploration of innovative methods utilizing radio signals for localization and sensing purposes. The research will be conducted with leading industrial partners, as part of the ongoing activities within the department of computer and electrical engineering.

The primary responsibility of a post-doctoral position is to conduct research. Additionally, there may be teaching and administrative tasks, such as assisting in creating research proposals to attract industrial, national, and European projects. The position also offers opportunities for training in higher education teaching and learning. However, these duties should not exceed 20% of the total work time. The purpose is to foster the development of independence as a researcher and create avenues for further professional growth.

As a post-doctoral researcher in this role, you will engage in cutting-edge research focused on localization and sensing beyond 5G systems and technologies. This encompasses various aspects such as channel modelling, waveform design, signal processing, intelligent surfaces, and artificial intelligence. Your responsibilities will involve algorithm design, simulation/implementation, performance analysis, as well as the planning and execution of measurement campaigns for data collection.

It is expected that you will publish high-quality, impactful papers, collaborate with PhD students, and actively participate in project management. This includes tasks such as writing deliverables and leading joint meetings between academia and industry partners.

Requirement
The eligible candidates are required to have a PhD degree in electrical engineering or computer science, with specialization in signal processing, wireless communication theory, tracking, localization, sensor fusion, or machine learning. Further, the PhD degree must have been obtained no more than three years prior to the application date.

Assessment
You are expected to have proven mathematical skills in, e.g., optimization and stochastic processes, as well as excellent programming skills. Knowledge in channel modelling, mmWave, and sub-THz communication is an added advantage. You are expected to have an outstanding track record of publications in IEEE journals and/or conferences and demonstrated independence and excellence in research.

Experience in international collaboration, innovation and utilization, and teaching are also meritorious.

Personal qualities
We are looking for someone who is creative and has the ability to initiate new research collaborations. You have excellent communication skills and are fluent in the English language. Furthermore, you enjoy working in teams and presenting your ideas and findings to researchers, and you are open to the application of results.

Employment process
Processing of the appointment will be in accordance with Mid Sweden University’s Employment Procedures.
