Department of Natural Sciences, Design and Sustainable Development

The Department of Natural Sciences, Design, and Sustainable Development at Mid Sweden University offers education and research within the subjects of the departments with focus on sustainable development at both the Östersund and Sundsvall campuses.

The department aims to strengthen the university's research in the field of design and establish design as a subject for doctoral-level research. Photography, graphic design, and industrial design subjects at Mid Sweden University are based on a scientific foundation, with a focus on using design processes to address challenges related to sustainable development in society and the environment. Furthermore, there is an ongoing development work for the industrial design program where scientific expertise is needed both in management and teaching.

Responsibilities
The position involves participating in the department's joint scientific and artistic development efforts to establish the subject design at the doctoral level and participating in the development of the industrial design program. Responsibilities include course management, teaching, supervision and examination, research grant work, leadership and participation in research projects, interaction with the surrounding community, administrative tasks, and participation in joint departmental activities and educational development work.

Requirements
Qualified to be employed as a senior lecturer is someone who has obtained a doctoral degree or has some other professional skill that is relevant to the subject matter and job duties of the employment. To be qualified as a senior lecturer, a higher education pedagogical training of at least 15 higher education credits or at least 10 weeks of full-time studies is normally required. If this is lacking, the employed senior lecturer must complete this within two years from the time of employment. Furthermore, the eligibility requirements and assessment criteria described in Mittuniversitetet's Employment Procedures and established guidelines for employment as an senior lecturer at the Faculty of Science, Technology and Media.

Bases of assessments
The successful candidate should have experience in research and education collaboration, university-level teaching, and documented experience in teaching, supervising, and/or examining university and/or college courses in graphic design, industrial design, or related areas. The ability to communicate effectively in Swedish and/or English is a requirement, Experience in project work, working on research grants, and having docent competence is desirable.

Personal qualities
Personal qualities include being responsible, attentive, and easy to collaborate with. The applicant must show a motivation to develop their own and others' knowledge and contribute to the development of the subject and the department.

The employment and entry will be by agreement, and the place of employment will be Sundsvall. The salary is determined individually.
