The Department of Computer and Electrical Engineering

At the department, education is conducted in the subjects of computer engineering, electronics, electrical engineering and sound production. The research at the department takes place at the research center Sensible Things that Communicate (www.miun.se/stc) and deals with sensor-based systems and services for use within the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence.

The research center STC (Sensible Things that Communicate, www.miun.se/stc) announces one open postdoctoral position in experimental research in designing end-to-end connectivity infrastructure to support remote-controlled time-critical applications over 5G wireless networks. The research task is a part of the project robust wireless infrastructure for remote-controlled timber loading in collaboration with Ericsson, Telia, and Volvo. STC is continuously seeking to hire highly motivated and outstanding researchers to work on enabling technologies for the next generation wireless communication networks.

The research will be conducted in the research group Communication Systems and Networking (CSN), which specializes in teaching, research, and innovation within the domain of wireless and wired communication and network technologies. The group features a dynamic and international environment, aiming to produce high-level academic research while maintaining a tight interplay with relevant industrial partners. The candidate will actively collaborate with other researchers within the research group, STC research center, as well as with our external collaborators in academia and industry.

Job description
The position is intended for talented researchers with the drive to push the knowledge frontiers in the area of advanced wireless networks towards 6G, with a special emphasis on experimental wireless research for time-critical industrial applications The duties include algorithm design and implementation in SW/HW (SDR, OpenAirInterface, srsLTE, etc.), network measurements and analysis, efficient resource allocation and network slicing,  and active dissemination of the research findings via international conferences and high-quality journals is expected. The position may also involve teaching and other administrative duties such as support in project management and writing new research proposals to attract industrial, national and European projects, but not more than 20% of work time.

Requirements and assessment
To qualify for employment as a post-doctor, the applicants must hold a PhD degree or a foreign qualification deemed equivalent to a PhD, while the PhD degree must have been obtained no more than three years prior to the application date (read more in Mid Sweden University employment procedures).

The eligible candidates are required to have a PhD degree in wireless communications, signal processing, or a closely related field in Electrical and Computer Engineering is required. The successful candidate must have an outstanding track record of publications in top journals within one or several of the research group’s research fields and demonstrated independence and excellence in research. The ideal candidate for the position should have a solid background in the following areas:

  • Experience in experimental wireless research (testbeds and/or channel/network measurements);
  • Wireless communication systems, including PHY and MAC layers;
  • Different Radio Access Network (RAN) techniques and network slicing;

The ideal candidate should be capable of autonomously conducting research in the above areas and should combine good analytical skills with a strong attitude towards practical implementation. In that respect, experience with Matlab, C++, Python, SDR, and network analysis tools is highly appreciated. Good command of English orally and in writing is required to present and publish research results.

Terms of employment
The postdoc position is for a period of two years. The position will take place at the Communication Systems and Networks research group of Mid Sweden University in campus Sundsvall, Sweden.
