Mittuniversitetet, Institutionen för informationssystem och -teknologi

The Department of Information Systems and Techonology is situated at Campus Sundsvall. Its activities include research in the field of Computer and System science, mainly in the fields of the subjects Computer engineering and Industrial organization and economy.

The advertised position will be linked to the research group Realistic 3D, which is headed by Professor Mårten Sjöström (see http://www.miun.se/stc/realistic3d), at the research centre STC. The group is part of the national research infrastructure InfraVis (https://infravis.se), which with this advertisement recruits a research engineer in computer technology to InfraVis.

InfraVis is a national research infrastructure funded by the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet) in support of scientific advancement through the application of state-of-the-art data analysis and visualization techniques. The goals of InfraVis are to significantly improve data analysis support, address new challenges involving large and complex data and create competitive advantages for Swedish researchers. The infrastructure consists of visualization experts working with various software solutions and access to high-end visualization laboratories. Users of InfraVis will be offered assistance through a national helpdesk with rapid response times as well as in-depth projects addressing specific data and software challenges. InfraVis will also provide software solutions based on development in connected research groups, curation of international software and best practise, and user training in the form of courses, seminars and on-line documentation. To build an infrastructure with national coverage, we have pooled together nine visualization environments in Sweden interconnected in a nodal structure. The nodes will be hosted in proximity to research environments in visualization, which will enable direct access to the research front as well as to state-of-art facilities.

Working tasks
As a research engineer in InfraVis, you will be responsible for support and software development in the visualization of scientific data. General tasks include advanced user support, selection of appropriate software, development of visualization tools and training of user groups from many different research areas. See the description of InfraVis above. The main task will be to provide services within the framework of the research infrastructure.

We offer a collaboration in a national infrastructure with a large group of other InfraVis experts anchored at the nine different universities. InfraVis research engineers are encouraged to continue to develop their professional and technical skills, both to stay current in their own field of science, but also to broaden their knowledge and skills in other subjects.

The service will to a lesser extent (20%) support other research projects with technical solutions.
