Mid Sweden University, The Department of Information Systems and Techonology

The Department of Information Systems and Techonology is situated at Campus Sundsvall. Its activities include research in the field of Computer and System science, mainly in the fields of the subjects Computer engineering and Industrial organization and economy.

The research center STC (Sensible Things that Communicate, www.miun.se/stc) announces one open postdoctoral position in the wide area of advanced 5G and 6G wireless communication technologies. STC is continuously seeking to hire highly motivated and outstanding researchers to work on enabling technologies for the next generation wireless communication networks.

The research will be conducted in the research group Communication Systems and Networking (CSN), which specializes in teaching, research and innovation within the domain of wireless and wired communication and network technologies. The group features a dynamic and international environment, which aims at producing high-level academic research while maintaining a tight interplay with relevant industrial partner. The candidate will actively collaborate with other researchers within the research group, STC research center, as well as with our external collaborators in academia and industry. The position will take place at Communication Systems and Networks research group of Mid Sweden University in campus Sundsvall, Sweden.

Job description:
The position is intended for talented researchers with the drive to push the knowledge frontiers in the area of advanced wireless networks towards 6G, with a special emphasis on one (or more) of the following areas: machine learning-aided wireless networks, spectrum management, decentralized learning, time-sensitive networking (TSN), green (energy-efficient) communication and learning. The duties include theoretical analysis, algorithm design and implementation in SW/HW (SDR etc.) and active dissemination of the research findings via international conferences and high-quality journals is expected. The position may also involve teaching and other administrative duties such as support in project management and writing new research proposals to attract industrial, national and European projects, but not more than 20% of work time.

Requirements and assessment:
The eligible candidates are required to have a PhD degree in wireless communications, signal processing, or a closely related field in Electrical and Computer Engineering is required. The successful candidate must have an outstanding track record of publications in top journals within one or several of the research group’s research fields, and demonstrated independence and excellence in research. The ideal candidate for the position should have a solid background in the following areas:

  • Wireless communication systems, and in particular baseband processing mechanisms;
  • Estimation theory and statistical signal processing;
  • ML algorithms, such as multi-layer perceptrons, convolutional networks, recurrent neural networks, generative adversarial networks, etc.
  • Time-sensitive networking

The ideal candidate should be capable of autonomously conducting research in the above areas, and should combine good analytical skills with an attitude towards practical implementation. In that respect, experience with Matlab, C++, Python and Tensorflow is highly appreciated. Good command of English orally and in writing is required to present and publish research results.

To qualify for an employment as a post-doctor, the applicants must hold a PhD degree or a foreign qualification deemed equivalent to a PhD, while the PhD degree must have been obtained no more than three years prior to the application date (read more at Mid Sweden University Employment Procedures).

Terms of employment:
