Job description
The communication systems and networks group, led by Prof. Mikael Gidlund and Prof. Tingting Zhang, at the research center STC (www.miun.se/stc) is looking for an associate senior lecturer in distributed systems with a focus on secure and intelligent large-scale distributed systems and computer networks, including combinations of cloud, fog, edge, mist, and Multi-Access Edge Computing (MEC). The candidate should have knowledge and experience in large-scale distributed systems, especially in areas related to IIoT and network security. Job tasks includes to:
- Actively engage in research, developing a distinct line of research through independent research projects.
- Actively contribute to education on all levels, including courses in distributed systems, network security and TCP/IP networks.
- Supervise master and doctoral students.
- Apply for external funding.
- Participate in joint departmental and university-wide undertakings.
- Participate in international collaborations on a high scientific level.
- Collaborate with research groups within and outside the university. 

Required qualifications and assessment
To be eligible for the position, a doctoral degree in computer engineering, computer science or equivalent is required. Your dissertation area and/or subsequent research should be focused on secure and large-scale distributed systems, especially on network level and upwards. Solid knowledge in IoT protocols such as CoAP, MQTT, OPC-UA, as well as network security, should be documented through publications or conducted teaching. Knowledge in related technologies such as Software Defined Networks (SDN), Network Function Virtualization (NFV), Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for network solutions is considered a merit. Further eligibility requirements and assessment criteria also apply, which are described in Mid Sweden University's employment procedures and in The Faculty's instructions for appointment as associate senior lecturer. You should have a good publishing history, including reputable international conferences and journals. In at least two of the following prioritized areas:
- Distributed systems
- Network security
- SDN and NFV
- MEC, Cloud, fog and mist computing

You must have experience of teaching at university level and it is meritorious if you have a university pedagogy education. Good skills are required in presenting and discussing research results in English, both written and orally. Knowledge of Swedish is an advantage. We are looking for candidates who can both work both independently and collaborate with other researchers and doctoral students. Experience from applying for and working in externally funded research projects is an advantage. Experience as a postdoctoral fellow and from exchanges at other universities than where you defended your dissertation is also meritorious.

Promotion to assistant professor
An associate senior lecturer has the right to be tried for promotion to the position as assistant professor. The application for promotion must be submitted no later than six months before the termination of employment as associate senior lecturer. A requirement for promotion is that the applicant must achieve the requirements that apply for employment as an assistant professor. In particular, the starting point for this assessment is that the applicant must have maintained a high publication rate and have completed a university pedagogy education of 15 ECTS credits or 10 weeks of full-time studies.

Preparation of employment follows the forms specified in Chapter 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and continues in accordance with the employment regulations that apply to Mid Sweden University.

Terms of employment: Full time for four years starting by agreement. Place of employment, Sundsvall.
