The Department of Information Systems and Techonology is situated at Campus Sundsvall. Its activities include research in the field of Computer and System science, mainly in the fields of the subjects Computer engineering and Industrial organization and economy.

The research center STC (Sensible Things that Communicate, www.miun.se/stc) announces one open postdoctoral position in the wide area of Machine Learning for Communication Networks.

Job description
The Communication Systems and Networks (CSN) group conducts research and education in communications engineering for 5G-and-beyond, radio access and resource management, dynamic spectrum access, design of wireless communication systems to support distributed learning applications, optimization of communication networks for robust and energy efficient implementation, and industrial IoT applications. The successful candidate will work in one of the projects related to these topics, applying machine learning to improve the network performance in some aspect. For example, we seek to conduct research in AI services for 5G, AI operations (AIops), Machine Learning operations (MLops), and explainable AI for communication networks. The results will be disseminated through scientific conference and journal publications. The candidate is also expected to actively contribute to the different research projects, coordinating technical contribution and/or preparing project deliverables, as well as preparing new research proposals to attract industrial, national and European projects. Finally, the candidate is expected to assist in the supervision of PhD students and some teaching may be included, but not more than 20% of full time.

Requirements and assessment
You should have experience from applying machine learning in a communication network context and a PhD degree in a relevant subject. Knowledge in artificial intelligence, data mining, mathematical statistics, mobile network infrastructure, and wireless communication is considered a merit.  International experience is desirable as well as a good publication track record in international conferences and journals on communication and machine learning. Experience of working with industrial projects or publicly funded research projects is desirable. The candidate is also expected to be highly committed, an excellent team-worker, and have good skills in critical thinking. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are required.

To qualify for an employment as a post-doctor, the applicants must hold a PhD degree or a foreign qualification deemed equivalent to a PhD, while the PhD degree must have been obtained no more than three years prior to the application date.

Terms of employment: Start according to agreement and until Dec. 31st 2022.
