The department conducts research and education in the subjects: business administration, law, economics, statistics, geography and tourism studies.

Business administration is one of the largest subjects at Mid Sweden University with core activities that are approximately equal in size and scope at the Sundsvall and Östersund campuses. The subject offers education programmes at the first-cycle and second-cycle levels as well as contract education. Starting in the autumn of 2022, a Master of Science in Business and Economics programme will be introduced with two specialisations: marketing & business development and accounting & finance. The business administration research conducted at the Sundsvall campus has a special connection to the Centre for Research on Economic Relations (CER) with a primary specialisation in the areas of banking, insurance, pensions, real estate, auditing and strategic networks. The research conducted at the Östersund campus is profiled towards entrepreneurship, business development and tourism.

The posted position is linked to the Master of Science in Business and Economics programme’s specialisations, and the licentiate project must have a strong connection to the areas of marketing & business development or accounting & finance. The specific specialisation of the project work will be decided in consultation with the successful candidate’s supervisor.

Applicants that are able to perform financial calculations will be given extra consideration. The successful candidate must also be familiar with empirical investigations, as a large part of the research takes place in collaboration with actors in the surrounding community. It is essential that the doctoral student is able to contribute to the core activities conducted in the business administration subject area, including education and administration, and to the third-cycle education environment, by maintaining a physical presence on site at the relevant campus. The position is intended to lead to a licentiate degree.

Main activities and responsibilities: Third-cycle studies (80%) and administration and/or teaching (20%) for two and a half years.

Eligibility : In order to be admitted to the third-cycle programme, the applicant must meet the general entry requirements (second-cycle degree) and specific entry requirements. In order to meet the specific entry requirements for admission to the third-cycle programme, the applicant must have at least 90 higher education credits in the subject or a related subject or have acquired equivalent knowledge inside or outside Sweden.

Assessment basis: Selection is made from the pool of applicants who meet the entry requirements in terms of the applicants’ ability to successfully fulfil the obligations of the third-cycle programme. Selection is made according to the following criteria: The position requires documented aptitude for research, demonstrated in a bachelor’s and/or master's dissertation and other written material, as well as the capacity to work independently. The application must be accompanied by a project outline (maximum four A4 pages), which must contain a preliminary proposal for a dissertation and planning for how the proposal can be implemented.
