Mid Sweden University, Department of Electronics Design

The Department of Electronics Design is situated at Campus Sundsvall. In addition to its research activities, it offers courses and programmes in the subjects Electronics, Electrical engineering and Sound production. The research of the department is conducted at the research centre STC (Sensible Things that Communicate, www.miun.se/stc).

Main activities and responsibilities: As society continues to move forward, the line between "everyday" society and industry is blurred, and environments are created where society an industry need to meet and coexist. New smart measurement systems, which are based on a collection of small sensor nodes that collectively form a network, create the conditions for much more far-reaching, informed decisions. A number of research groups within the STC research centre conduct collaborative research in this area.

As a senior lecturer, main activities and responsibilities include being a part of the strategic development in the areas of research/education for the next-generation measurement system at STC. The position includes teaching and supervision responsibilities at all education levels, as well as the senior lecturer’s own research, planning, and application for research funding plus participation in and management of research projects. Responsibilities also include disseminating research and collaborating with the surrounding community. Administrative task will be included and may include management responsibilities. The senior lecturer is also expected to actively contribute to the development of the education and research subject. This will require a physical presence at the workplace and participation in the department’s joint responsibilities.

Assessment criteria and eligibility requirements or Qualifications: In order to be eligible for the position, applicants must hold a doctoral degree or equivalent scientific competence in electronics/electrical engineering or a related subject area and have completed a third-cycle education programme as well as demonstrated teaching expertise. The eligibility requirements and assessment criteria described in Mid Sweden University’s employment regulations https://www.miun.se/globalassets/styrdokument/2.-verksamhetsstod/personal/anstalla-personal/regel/anstallningsordning-miun-2020_2642.pdf also apply, as well as established instructions for appointment as a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Science, Technology and Media https://www.miun.se/siteassets/fakulteter/nmt/anstallningsradet/instructions-appointment-of-senior-lecturers-nmt-generalqualification_200901.pdf.

In addition to the above qualifications, it is required that your dissertation and/or subsequent research has a focus on measurement technology applications, where machine learning principles and approaches are included.

In addition to the above eligibility requirements and assessment criteria, the following qualifications are considered especially relevant:

  • The successful candidate shall have broad competence in the subject Electronics with a focus on measurement technology
  •  Documented experience completing assignments that included a leadership role and experience conducting research projects.

  • Administrative skills.

Additional qualifications considered are:

  • Experience working with the measurement of “environmental parameters” for control/management and decision-making in industrial and societal processes.
  • Professional experience in the field of measurement technology.
  • Ability to communicate in Swedish

Research qualifications are assessed based on the scope and quality of published articles.

Teaching experience is assessed based on pedagogical qualifications (describe your role in education and your view on learning).

Since the senior lecturer is expected to engage in collaborations across core activities within the university and outside the university, we will give extra consideration to your accountability and ability to collaborate successfully. The successful applicant should have a holistic perspective, where the role of senior lecturer is viewed in relation to others’ roles as a part of a team.
