The Department of Information Systems and Techonology is situated at Campus Sundsvall. Its activities include research in the field of Computer and System science, mainly in the fields of the subjects Computer engineering and Industrial organization and economy.

Job description: The successful candidate will join one of Scandinavia’s leading research teams in communication networks, lead by Prof. Mikael Gidlund and Prof. Tingting Zhang. We are looking for candidates with experience and knowledge in distributed systems, in particular in the areas related to IIoT and network security. The accepted applicant will collaborate closely with other researchers working in the same field, and is expected to:

  • Actively engage in research, developing a distinct line of research through independent research projects.
  • Actively contribute to education on all levels.
  • Supervise masters and doctoral students.
  • Apply for external funding.
  • Participate in joint departmental and university-wide undertakings.
  • Participate in international collaborations on a high scientific level.
  • Collaborate with research groups within and outside the university.

Qualification required: For this position, it is required to have a PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related subject. The dissertation and/or later research should cover distributed systems, (I)IoT, or similar, and you are expected to experience from the network layer and up, with knowledge in higher layer protocols such as CoAP, MQTT, OPC-UA. Knowledge in network security is meritorious. Furthermore, the eligibility requirements and criteria described in Appointment procedure for teachers at Mid Sweden University and established Instructions for the appointment of senior lecturers at the Department of Science, Technology and Media, general qualification.

During the evaluation, special attention is given to the quality and amount of publications, as well as the ability to apply for and work in externally funded research projects. Pedagogical education and experience from teaching are requirements.

The research is conducted in an international environment and good command of English, both orally and in writing, is therefore required. Ability to communicate in Swedish is considered a merit. We are looking for strongly motivated candidates, who are able both to work independently and to cooperate with other researchers and PhD students. Post-doctoral or equivalent stays at an institution other than the one where the PhD was awarded are considered as merits.

Promotion to senior lecturer: As an associate senior lecturer you have the right to apply for promotion to a permanent position as senior lecturer. Application for promotion must be submitted no later than six months prior to the end of the employment as associate senior lecturer. It is required for the applicant to have the qualifications required for the position of senior lecturer as stated in the Mid Sweden University Appointment Procedure and according to the Faculty instructions on appointment to senior lecturer. Important for the assessment for promotion from associate senior lecturer to senior lecturer is that the applicant has maintained a high rate of publication and completed a 15-credit course in teaching and learning in higher education or acquired the equivalent skills in some other way.

Procedure: The recruitment process follows the regulations of the Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 4, and the employment procedures applicable to Mid Sweden University.

Terms of employment: Full-time for four years with start September 1st 2021, or according to agreement.

Placement: Sundsvall.

Salary: Salary is determined on an individual basis.
