Mid Sweden University, Department of Information Systems and Technology

The Department of Information Systems and Techonology is situated at Campus Sundsvall. Its activities include research in the field of Computer and System science, mainly in the fields of the subjects Computer engineering and Industrial organization and economy.

Mid Sweden University offers three PhD positions, which will be registered in Double degree doctoral programmes at academic institutions in Finland, France, Germany and Sweden.

This position refers to research in ESR 13: Dimension reduction of deep network models for mobile computational plenoptics with Double degree with Tampere University, Finland.

Job description
The research will be supported by an extensive training program consisting of training schools, workshops, and webinars. Mobility between network partners is supported by research visits and secondments. In this way, the employed researchers will be integrated in the network with the aim to help them to interact with their fellows and within different research, development and innovation environments.

Objectives: Systematically formulate and develop plenoptic algorithms based on machine and deep learning, and optimize these with respect to both quality and computational efficiency. Model adjustments and dimensionality reductions will be at focus to enable efficient and effective processing on mobile devices. Enable processing for a large variety of applications within image processing and computer vision using computational plenoptics.

Planned secondment(s): (1) Tampere University, Finland, nine months during year two and/or year three, evaluation of user experience on mobile device. (2) BT, two months during year four, testing developed solutions on mobile platforms.

Requirements and assessment
To be considered for a PhD position, the applicant must meet the entry requirements for admission to Mid Sweden University´s third-cycle programme. In order to meet the entry requirements, the applicant must have master degree in the fields of computer engineering/science, electrical engineering, communications engineering, physics, information technology, or a closely related field.

We are looking for a candidate to work on highly innovative projects in a competitive yet collaborative research and study environment. Applicants shall, at the time of recruitment by the host organization, be in the first four years (full-time equivalent research experience) of their research careers and not yet have been awarded a doctoral degree. Full-time equivalent research experience is measured from the date when a researcher obtained the degree that would formally entitle him/her to embark on a doctorate.

The positions include transnational mobility, i.e. moving from one country to another. According to the H2020 MSCA Mobility Rule, at the time of recruitment by the host organization, researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of their host organization for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the recruitment date.
