Mid Sweden University, The Department of Information and Systems Technology

The Department of Information Systems and Techonology is situated at Campus Sundsvall. Its activities include research in the field of Computer and System science, mainly in the fields of the subjects Computer engineering and Industrial organization and economy.

The research center STC (Sensible Things that Communicate www.miun.se/stc) announces one open postdoctoral position in the area of intelligent wireless sensor networks.

Job description
The research will be conducted in the research group Communication Systems and Networking (CSN), which is internationally renowned for its leading role in the area of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) for time- and mission-critical industrial applications. The candidate will actively collaborate with other researchers within the research group, STC research center, as well as with our external collaborators in academia and industry.

The successful candidate will join a Scandinavia’s proficient and motivated research team lead by Prof. Mikael Gidlund in order to carry out cutting edge and impactful research. Within the context of WSNs, we conduct research in ML/AI-based intelligent spectrum management, time- and criticality-aware, medium access, scheduling and routing, time synchronization, and backscatter communications. The successful candidate will work in one of the aforementioned areas depending on the background and interests. The duties include theoretical modeling and analysis, algorithm design and validation via simulations but preferably by HW/SW prototyping (e.g., using SDRs, Contiki, and Python frameworks, etc.), and writing scientific articles in recognized journals and conferences. The position may also involve teaching and other administrative duties, such as support in project management and writing new research proposals to attract industrial, national and European projects, but not more than 20% of work time.

Requirements and assessment
The eligible candidates are required to have a PhD degree in Signal Processing, Wireless Communications, Communication Systems, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science or a closely related subject. The successful candidate must have an outstanding track record of publications in top journals within one or several of the research group’s research fields, and demonstrated independence and excellence in research. Well-developed analytical and problem solving skills are also requirement. Good command of English orally and in writing is required to present and publish research results.

To qualify for an employment as a post-doctor, the applicants must hold a PhD degree or a foreign qualification deemed equivalent to a PhD, while the PhD degree must have been obtained no more than three years prior to the application date.
