The Department of Information Systems and Techonology is situated at Campus Sundsvall. Its activities include research in the field of Computer and System science, mainly in the fields of the subjects Computer engineering and Industrial organization and economy.

The research center STC (Sensible Things that Communicate, www.miun.se/stc) announces one open postdoctoral position in the wide area of beyond 5G/6G wireless communication technologies. STC is continuously seeking to hire highly motivated and outstanding researchers to work on enabling technologies for the next generation (Beyond 5G/6G) wireless communication networks.

Job description
The research will be conducted in the research group Communication Systems and Networking (CSN), which is internationally renowned for its leading role in the area of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) for time- and mission-critical industrial applications. The candidate will actively collaborate with other researchers within the research group, STC research center, as well as with our external collaborators in academia and industry.

The successful candidate will join a Scandinavia’s proficient and motivated research team lead by Prof. Mikael Gidlund in order to carry out cutting edge and impactful research in one of the following topics: machine learning (ML) solutions for physical layer and medium access control of future wireless systems, age of information/information freshness-aware resource allocation, scheduling, and network optimization for battery-operated devices, radio resource slicing for URLLC, eMBB and mMTC communications. The duties include theoretical analysis, algorithm design and implementation in SW/HW (SDR etc.) and writing scientific papers in recognized journals and conferences. The position may also involve teaching and other administrative duties such as support in project management and writing new research proposals to attract industrial, national and European projects, but not more than 20% of work time.

Requirements and assessment
The eligible candidates are required to have a PhD degree in wireless communications, signal processing, machine/deep learning or a closely related field in Electrical and Computer Engineering is required. The successful candidate must have an outstanding track record of publications in top journals within one or several of the research group’s research fields, and demonstrated independence and excellence in research. Moreover, strong knowledge on some of the following topics: PHY and MAC layer design of 5G wireless systems, wireless IoT technologies, network virtualization, network slicing, graph signal processing, machine/deep learning techniques/tools, and optimization methods.  We are looking for strongly motivated candidates, who are able to work independently and cooperate with PhD students. Well-developed analytical and problem solving skills are a requirement. Good command of English orally and in writing is required to present and publish research results.

To qualify for an employment as a post-doctor, the applicants must hold a PhD degree or a foreign qualification deemed equivalent to a PhD, while the PhD degree must have been obtained no more than three years prior to the application date.

Terms of employment: Two year full time starting March 1st 2021 or according to agreement.
