The Department of Health Sciences is situated at Campus Sundsvall and Campus Östersund. It offers courses, programmes and research in the fields of Public Health Science, Sports Science and Rehabilitation Science.

Description of the SWSRC: The Swedish Winter Sports Research Centre was established in 2007 within Mid Sweden University, on the Östersund campus. The SWSRC carries out research primarily on winter sports at both national and international levels and has a strong focus on interdisciplinary monitoring of the physiological responses, biomechanics and performance of athletes. The SWSRC is the Olympic test centre for winter sports in Sweden and researches in close collaboration with individuals participating in both elite and recreational sports. As part of the

Department of Health Sciences at Mid Sweden University, the SWSRC has strong, extensive and well-established interactions with the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in sports science.

Job description: We are looking to recruit a researcher in the area of applied sports performance with emphasis on technology in biomechanics and physiology. This is a 2-year position that will primarily involve working on the SINTEC EU Horizon 2020 project (www.SINTEC-project.eu). The research will focus on testing newly developed sensor technology and testing elite and recreational athletes in different environments targeting to monitor their performance- and health-related parameters.

Key Requirements:

  • An MSc and/or PhD in one of the following fields: sports sciences, sports engineering or physics/mathematics/computer sciences with proficiency in sport or sport-related projects
  • Knowledge in biomechanics and physiology
  • Basic knowledge in Matlab
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • The capacity to work in an international team (project consortium) and to work independently

 Additional experience: 

  • Experience in performing indoors and outdoors testing
  • Experience in sensor development

Terms of employment: Temporary position for 2 years with initial probation period.

Location of occupation: Östersund

Some work will be placed in Ljubljana, Slovenia with occasional travels within the EU depending on the needs of the work.
