Mittuniversitetet

The Department of Electronics Design is situated at Campus Sundsvall. In addition to its research activities, it offers courses and programmes in the subjects Electronics, Electrical engineering and Sound production. The research of the department is conducted at the research centre STC (Sensible Things that Communicate, www.miun.se/stc).

Position description: Deep neural network (DNN) algorithms are an extremely promising instrument in artificial intelligence, achieving very high performance in numerous recognition, identification, and classification tasks. However, it is still very challenging to implement DNN algorithms in resource-constrained embedded devices, which hinders their widespread adoption in the vast array of Internet of Things (IoT) applications and markets. The PhD student will study architectures for low energy, low latency implementation of DNN architectures for in-sensor and edge computing solutions.

Selection criteria: Final selection will also be based on other work (such as thesis work) and courses, and on interviews with applicants. Prior experience in design and programming of embedded systems and configurable computational platforms will be an advantage.  Personal qualities like teamwork skills, initiative, and suitability for PhD studies will be weighed together with formal subject knowledge. A brief description of your visions and goals should be included in the application.

Employment: The postgraduate employment offered is intended to be equivalent to two years’ fulltime research studies and aims to lead to a Licentiate degree.
