The Department of Electronics Design is situated at Campus Sundsvall. In addition to its research activities, it offers courses and programmes in the subjects Electronics, Electrical engineering and Sound production. The research of the department is conducted at the research centre STC (Sensible Things that Communicate, www.miun.se/stc).

Position description: We offer a postdoctoral position within an internationally active research group working on the development and characterization of sensor components and systems. Research, is conducted in close collaboration with leading research institutes both nationally,(RISE – Research Institutes of Sweden), and internationally, (CAS – Chinese Academy of Science). Researchers in this group have access to modern equipment and unique facilities and competences. Mid Sweden University also has laboratories for manufacturing and characterizing sensor components. 

A part of the MiLo project focuses on detection and monitoring of environmental and hazardous gases emitted from residues from past industrial production and waste. The successful application will work on the development and characterization of a gas sensors based on semiconductor nanowires, that has the ability to detect specific gases. A key research question will be how to make the nanowires to become sensitive to gases such as methane and hydrogen sulphide. The research will involve both theoretical and practical work and participation in the supervision of the PhD and master students working in this area. 

Entry requirements and selection criteria: The required qualifications for postdoctoral employment is PhD degree or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a PhD within a relevant research area. The PhD must have been obtained no more than five years prior to the application due date, although allowance will be will be made for periods of sick leave or parental leave. 

The relevant subject areas for this position are electronics, electrical engineering or physics, with a specialization in the development and processing of sensor components. Practical and theoretical research experience and knowledge of nanotechnology, nanowires, and/or nanomaterials is required.

Previous experience with the development and characterization of semiconductor based gas sensors is an advantage. 

Active participation and collaboration within the research group is required. It is important that you are an cooperative and open-minded person with good knowledge of both written and oral English. 

Employment: Full-time employment one year.
