The Department of Quality Technology and Management, Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics is located at Campus Östersund. The department conducts research and education in the following subjects: Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Quality Technology, Sport Technology, and Quality Management and Leadership.

Sports Tech Research Centre is a multidisciplinary research centre that conducts research in innovative development and verification of products, materials, technologies and methods, primarily for sport and outdoor companies, hospitals and industry. The research also covers medical applications, equipment for functionally impaired people and additive manufacturing (3D printing), with applications in medicine and material and process development respectively. The Centre has several technologically advanced labs, some of which are unique in the world.

Duties:
The position covers research and development in additive manufacturing in metal and is part of the Mechanical Engineering/Sport Technology field at the Sports Tech Research Centre. The Centre’s expansive research programme puts particular emphasis on winter sports in the areas of mechanical and biomechanical structures, accident risk reduction, disability aids, efficiency-improving measures in elite sport and applications in additive manufacturing. The position involves operation and maintenance of equipment for additive manufacturing, some process development and material development, as well as material characterisation within the framework of the TROJAM-3DC project, an Interreg Sweden-Norway project in the Innovative Environments priority area that has been granted funds from the European Regional Development Fund. Some teaching and administration linked to the research area may be required. Mid Sweden University runs several projects in the field of additive manufacturing in close collaboration with both regional and national partner companies, as well as with researchers at other institutes and universities. Eligibility and assessment criteria:
The applicant must have completed a second cycle degree or completed course requirements of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits are second cycle level, or in some other way have acquired generally equivalent knowledge in Sweden or abroad. Applicants from other countries must be able to demonstrate that they have completed studies in which the equivalent level of knowledge has been acquired.

To fulfil the special eligibility requirement for this position the applicant must have at least 90 credits (1.5 years) in material/mechanical engineering, or in subjects closely related to material/mechanical engineering, or in some other way have acquired generally equivalent knowledge in Sweden or abroad.

In addition to the formal eligibility requirements, selection will also be based on other work (e.g. thesis, project work), courses and interviews with the applicant. Previous experience in process and material development with powder bed methods, material characterisation or other related areas is a merit. Experience of working with companies and leadership of project work is also seen as beneficial. Personal qualities such as interpersonal skills, the ability to take initiative and suitability as a research engineer will be considered alongside formal subject knowledge. A brief description of the applicant’s visions and goals in the additive manufacturing area must be included in the application.

Employment and starting date: This advertisement is for full-time temporary employment as a research engineer for one year. Starting date subject to agreement.
