The Department of Quality Technology and Management, Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics is located at Campus Östersund. The department conducts research and education in the following subjects: Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Quality Technology, Sport Technology, and Quality Management and Leadership.

Description of the department: The Sports Tech Research Centre is a multidisciplinary research centre that carries out research in innovative development and verification of products. materials, technology and methods, primarily for sports and outdoor recreation businesses, hospitals and industry. Research also covers medical applications, equipment for functionally impaired people, and additive manufacturing (3D printing), with applications in medicine and material/process development, respectively. The centre has several technically advanced labs, some of which are unique in the World.

Job description: The position deals with research and development in sports and outdoor recreation and is part of the Mechanical Engineering/Sports Technology field at the Sports Tech Research Centre. The expansive research programme at the Centre puts particular emphasis on winter sports, in the areas of mechanical and biomechanical structures, accident risk reduction, disability aids, efficiency-improving measures within elite sports, as well as on applications within additive manufacturing. You will be expected to carry out development work connected with these research fields, but with the focus on sports and outdoor recreation. Mid Sweden University is running several projects in this field, in close collaboration with regional as well as national partner companies, and with researchers at other institutes and universities. Qualifications and basis of assessment: The applicant must have a second-cycle qualification or have completed course requirements of at least 240 HE credits, of which at least 60 at the second-cycle level, or must in some other way have acquired, in Sweden or abroad, knowledge largely corresponding to these qualifications. Applicants from other countries must be able to prove that they have completed studies in which the equivalent level of knowledge was obtained.

In order to fulfil the special qualification required for applying for this position, the applicant must have completed at least 90 HE credits (1.5 years) of Mechanical Engineering or subjects closely related to Mechanical Engineering, or must in some other way have acquired, in Sweden or abroad, knowledge largely corresponding to these qualifications.

In addition to the formal qualification requirements, the selection will also be based on other work (e g degree projects or other project work) and courses, and on interviews with applicants. Previous work experience of testing of individual components such as full outfits, with particular focus on textile elements, will be considered an additional qualification. Experience of collaborating with businesses and of managing project work will also be considered in the applicant’s favour. Personal qualities such as the abilities to cooperate and take initiatives, and the applicant’s aptitude as a research engineer, will be considered together with the formal qualifications. A brief personal statement of the applicant’s vision and goals must be included with the application.

Employment and starting date: This advertisement is for a one-year employment as full-time research engineer. The starting date will be subject to agreement.
