Mittuniversitetet, Faculty of Human Sciences, Avdelningen för humaniora

Gaskeuniversiteete/Mid-Sweden University is located in the middle of the Southern Sami area in Sápmi. The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences operates at Campus Sundsvall and Campus Östersund. Activities include research and education within the subjects of Civics, Comparative Literature, Criminology, English, Gender Studies, History, Political Science, Sociology, Southern Sami, Swedish as a Second Language, and Swedish Language. The research is conducted within each respective subject and within the Risk and Crisis Research Center (RCR), Forum for Gender Studies (FGV), and DEMICOM (an interdisciplinary centre for research on journalism, crisis communication, media development, and organizational and political communication).

Duties: In addition to conducting research within English Literature and teaching undergraduate, master’s and doctoral courses, the professor is expected to collaborate with colleagues to develop research, courses, and contacts with the community of relevance to research and education. Therefore it is essential that the professor is present at the workplace. The professor is also expected to play an active role in the doctoral programme and in attracting research funding. Adminstrative tasks also form part of the duties.

Eligibility and assessment of candidate qualifications: Applicants are required to have a PhD in English Literature and must be able to demonstrate scientific as well as pedagogical expertise in the subject (Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 4). The applicant must satisfy the requirements according to university guidelines (miun.se/anstallningsordning, miun.se/huv/handlaggningsordningar).

One research profile of the English subject is ecocriticism, therefore research experience within this field is of particular merit. Moreover, as our courses at undergraduate and advanced level are taught not only on campus but also as net-based distance courses, experience of net-based teaching is also of merit.
