The Department of Education is located at Campus Sundsvall. Most of the department’s activities revolve around the programmes in Teacher Education, which include Child and Youth Education, and the education of primary and secondary school teachers
At the Department of Education international, national and regional collaboration is conducted in research within teacher education. We are searching for three doctoral students who have a clear interest in conducting research within one of the main areas below, with a clear connection to the problem formulation within the educational area, primarily the school forms pre-school, after-school centre, F-3 or 4-6.
We are searching for a doctoral student who is interested in conducting research focused on after-school centre activities where e.g. profession, interaction with the pre-school class, school or the surrounding society, learning environments or policy implementation constitute the focus of the thesis.
Job description: Research studies and administrative tasks and/or teaching
Description of the contents of the doctoral studies: The studies are financed by faculty funds, special efforts for teacher training education, and are thereby connected to problem formulations within the school area, primarily the school forms pre-school, after-school centre, F-3 or 4-6.
Description of the scope of the doctoral studies: Doctoral studentships with faculty funds are usually conducted through research studies (80%) and department tasks and/or teaching (20% during five years).
Eligibility: Eligible for acceptation to the doctoral programme within the subject of pedagogy are those who fulfil the general and specific entry requirements. The latter is clarified by the requirement that applicants within the undergraduate education has received at least 90 credits in pedagogy at the first cycle including a degree project of at least 15 credits as well as at least 30 credits in pedagogy in the second cycle including a degree project of at least 15 credits in pedagogy or has in another manner within or outside the country acquired the equivalent knowledge.

Basis of assessment: Selection occurs in accordance with the following criteria: fulfilment of eligibility requirements, feasibility of the project description, quality and originality. Degree projects during the education programme as well as texts and other publications that demonstrates the ability to benefit from the doctoral programme also forms a basis for the selection (Chapter 5, Section 5 of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance). Administration: The appointment will be effected following the forms specified in Chapter 5 of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance and continue in accordance with the appointment procedure applicable at Mid Sweden University.
Employment and start date: The studentship includes research studies (80%) and department tasks and/or teaching (20% during five years). However, the combined length of employment must not exceed the equivalent of four year’s full-time education at the doctoral level. To start as early as possible in 2018. A new employment as a doctoral student applies for a maximum of one year. The employment can be extended with a maximum of two years at a time.
